- 120 g Nonfat milk, cold (½ cup)
- 100 g Nonfat Greek yogurt (½ cup)
- 30 g Vanilla whey protein powder (1.1 oz (about 1 scoop))
- 2 g Vanilla extract (½ tsp)
- 100 g (a handful) Ice cubes (a handful (about 3.5 oz))
Amounts are for 2 servings. Calories and macros above stay per serving, and amounts in the method are for 1 serving.
You'll need: Blender, Tall glass.
Method
-
Load the blender
Pour the orange juice and milk into the blender, then add the yogurt, whey and vanilla.
Use juice and milk straight from the fridge. Cold liquids give the frostiest shake.
-
Blend with ice
Add the ice cubes and blend for 45 seconds, until thick, smooth and pale orange.
Blend it cold and drink it soon. Juice and milk can separate if the shake sits warm.
-
Pour and drink
Pour the shake into the glass and drink it within 15 minutes, while it's still frosty.
If it starts to separate, give it a quick stir and it comes right back.
Common mistake
Using warm juice or skipping the ice. The shake ends up thin and loses its creamsicle texture.
Storage
Best fresh. It separates in the fridge, so blend it again briefly if it has been sitting.
Swaps
- Orange juice → Mango juice, same amountA tropical take with a similar sweetness.
- Nonfat milk → Unsweetened soy milkA dairy-free milk with similar protein; the whey and yogurt still contain dairy.
